Did You Know?

That boys are not handsome unless they have a bow-tie?   I have this from a good source, my 4 yo son.  Well, if that is true I can not set my sons up for being ridiculed for the rest of their lives.  Thank goodness I found this tutorial.

 Now they are handsome!

Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-Long - wk 1

I came across the blog, msmcporkchopquilts, a little while ago and found out that she was co-hosting a quilt-a-long using The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt book.  This is my sort of quilt along as she is doing 2 blocks a week and they are not in the same order as her co-host.  That gives me complete freedom to quilt what I want to!  I have started a little behind, so the first several weeks will happen very quickly.  I let my 4 yo son pick my first several blocks.  He thinks this is really cool and I am relishing every minute of that!  Without further ado, here are my first two blocks!!!

#2   Autumn Tints
All I can tell you about the fabric is the solid orange is from IKEA, the rest are scraps that I inherited.

#71   Puss in the Corner
Again, I don't know anything about the fabrics, as they were not purchased by me.

~ the numbers listed above are the number of the quilt block in the book~

The View from Here

Today was my daughter's last day of school.  I am SO excited!  Hopefully I can finish this project soon with all my new free time!

WIP No More!

I have had this quilt in my pile to finish for months.  In my defense, I know the imperfections and wondered how I could redeem it.  Since the lines aren't quite straight, I was a little concerned how it would look with the binding.  Well, it still is not straight, but it is not as glaring as I envisioned.  Now, what to do with it?

My New Purse

**you can find the tutorial that I used HERE**

Here is the purse that I made yesterday.  The flower is from a coat that I found at Goodwill on clearance and the fabric is from the remnant rack.  Gotta love orange!  My go to color for the season!

Ready for some Time Travel?

I have not made many things for my boys because sewing for girls is so much easier.  Well that changed recently when I ran across this tutorial.  An indoor hanging tent seemed like just the thing for our apartment.  Of course, not just any tent would do for my brood.  We needed a TARDIS. (For those of you who don't know what a tardis is, you need to watch Doctor Who).  Yep, that is what we needed!  So, our tardis took flight last night, and most of the family is happy.  Though #3 is a little upset that he can not travel through time with this, so next he would like the real thing.  I followed the tutorial mentioned above for the dimensions, but it ended there.  The rest of it, I just played by ear or eye or something like that.

Now if only we could get the toys picked up...

The Great Dilemma

This weekend posed a great dilemma for me.  The sun was out (not common for the NW) and I had an idea for crafting.  What to do, oh what to do???  Well, it was not as hard to make a decision as one might think.  I have 9 months of rain to stay inside.  So, my creative juices were spent trying to find something fun to do with three kids and little to no money out.  Some ice cream and fabric from IKEA, playing and family and friends yards, a public fountain and some Ben & Jerry's and our weekend was complete.  I even got a little tan.  I call that a successful weekend!

Pillow Love

It is time for a confession.  I do not have any throw pillows on my bed.  None.  To think, someone who loves to sew has no decorative pillows!  Well, that is going to change.  A friend of mine asked me to recover some of her pillows and I really love the way they turned out.  I loved trying new techniques.  I loved that I was able to finish one in a sitting.  I love the way they look together, without being identical.  Yep, I am going to get me some of those.  Until then, you get to see hers.
This adorable pillow is reversible!  And was inspired from this tutorial.
